Her shackles had gone unnoticed even to her for a long time.
She had been bound to the pain deep within.
The need to escape, to finally be free overwhelmed her existence.
She had never stood tall before, not knowing if she had a right.
She prayed for Grace to fall over her.
Still hurting and angry but she didn’t want to hurt those who had hurt her the most.
Fear had screamed in her face, whipped her flesh, belittled her existence and left bruises and scars no one ever saw.
It stripped her of her innocence, her worth, her love and joy.
Fear said I love you, called her endearing names then used her love, her body and her heart for its greed and power.
And she eventually gave it all in the need for love.
Broken and bound she wanted to fight back.
Gently, with compassion and forgiveness now.
The thing she wanted and needed most now, more than ever was the very thing that terrified her.
To fly.
The sky called out to her; spread your wings.
Trust me I’ll catch you.
But fear was waiting in the stillness, with a smile on its face, a twinkle in its eyes and arms wide open.
It had lured her back many times before.
Saying everything she had needed to hear and the gentle embrace she had craved.
But the illusion was gone now.
She knew the truth.
And this is the day she decided to fly.
